Question: Why should I see a registered dietitian?

Answer: Certainly you could just say "I have diabetes so I'm going to cut out all sugar." This may or may not provide long term success with regards to your diabetes and overall health. But registered dietitians (RD) are food and nutrition experts. An RD can not only discuss with you foods to limit but can help you identify foods you should be adding to your diet to maximize your health. An RD can help show you ways to include, in your eating plan, favorite foods you feared you'd have to give up for good.

She or he can answers any questions you may have about new foods, cooking, and what to do in countless food-related situations such as parties, temptations at work, and more. Simply cutting out sugar by yourself may give you some short term improvement, but working with a registered dietitian can help you make long term, beneficial changes in your lifestyle that lasts a lifetime.
