Are commercial diet plans good for diabetes?

Q. Are commercial diet plans good for a person with diabetes?

A. They can be. Many programs offer group support, recipe ideas, tips to maintain motivation and more. The trick is that you may need to make some modifications to be sure that you're spreading your carbohydrate out in a way that fits your blood glucose goals and your diabetes medications. There is no one perfect diet for people with diabetes or for anyone. If you like the structure or group support of a commercial plan and need help tailoring it to your needs, make an appointment with a registered dietitian. You can find one in your area by visiting Eatright.org from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
