Can you be a pilot with diabetes?
Q. Can individuals with diabetes be pilots?
A. Yes, but there are restrictions. A person with well-controlled diabetes who does not use insulin is eligible for all classes of pilot's license. Those who take insulin and are well-controlled are eligible for a third class license only. The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) requires documentation of a change in treatment plan or a change in health status.
You can learn more about the FAA's requirements in their Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners.
