Question
I am 45 and was diagnosed with diabetes about six months ago. I'm taking 1000 mg of metformin along with 10 mcg of Byetta twice daily.Do most all people with diabetes have to take medication to protect the kidneys? My doctor has said she wants me to start lisinopril [an ACE Inhibitor], but there is no indication of any kidney disease, and my BP is always excellent. Im just concerned of being tired and the possible side effects of the lisinopril.
Answer
Your doctor is making an excellent recommendation! It's a very good idea to consider for people with diabetes. See how to protect your kidneys .
