Question

My doctor wrote a prescription for Lantus insulin using a pen as the injector. The pharmacist said he can't get the pen; only a doctor can. So I'm confused. Do you know how I can get the pen I need?

Answer

These pens have been in short supply. If neither your physician nor pharmacist can help, I'd suggest you contact the manufacturer. From the Lantus website:
Q: Is there a number I can call with questions?
A: Yes, call 1-800-633-1610 any time of day or night for assistance with OptiClik®.
