Question

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last Thanksgiving and only recently (7 months later) have my sugar level under control with medication. I purchased a foot massager, thinking this will help my foot circulation. Most friends said to check with my physician before using it. Why? What could possibly happen with a vibrating/heat foot massager? I shall check with my physician, but hope your answer will be the same as his and also help some of your readers.

Answer

People with diabetes can have decreased sensation in their feet. Because of this they can sustain an injury and not know it until it is causing major problems. You need to be sure this massager does not burn your feet or cause any irritation of the skin. If these problems do not occur, then there should be no problem. Your doctor can check the sensation in your feet to see if there is any problem.
