Question

My doctor wants me to test first thing in the morning and then before dinner. She said I will know what the reading should be. However, I am confused. What is an acceptable reading for these times?

Answer

"Acceptable readings" are whatever you and your physician (or diabetes nurse educator) decide are appropriate for you. Normal blood glucose readings before eating breakfast or dinner are less than 110 mg/dL [6.1 mmol/L].
