  • June 13, 2007    A recently-released report said the number of people in India with diabetes is projected to be 73.5 million by 2025. India's total bill for diabetes will be at least $30 billion by 2025, and as economic wealth grew and standards of care improved, treatment costs were likely to rise. Comparing the cost of treating a patient with diabetes in the US, which is around $10,844 dollars a year, the report said, "If India's per capita expenditure rose to just one-tenth of this level, the total cost of treating all patients will be $79.7 billion by 2025."   • June 6, 2007    The manufacturer of Avandia says that findings from an interim analysis of RECORD (Rosiglitazone Evaluated for Cardiac Outcomes and Regulation of glycemia in Diabetes), a prospective clinical trial designed specifically to determine cardiovascular outcomes in more than 4,400 patients with type 2 diabetes, adds further evidence to its overall cardiovascular safety profile.   • June 1, 2007    Cargill Inc. is teaming up with the Coca-Cola Co. to market a new calorie-free natural sweetener… The two companies have worked jointly to develop the new sweetener - tentatively named rebiana - which aims to sweeten products without adding calories while maintaining a natural flavor… Before hitting the market, it has regulatory and production challenges to overcome.
