Question
There are so many diabetes
monitors and kits out there — it is so hard to pick the best.
My dad is a
diabetic and he is older and I hate to hear my mom tell me he goes through
pain every time he has to check his blood sugar.
I was told by a pharmacy
technician that the [brand name deleted] is the one monitor that offers less
pain of all of them.
But that was just what they had at his store;
now I see
way more brands of monitors.
I'd like to know from the experts which monitor
is really the best and less painful to use of all, also easy to read, my dad
is in his 70's, but my main concern is the amount of pain, the less the
better. Thank you so much!
Answer
Look for a meter that will test on "alternative sites." These alternative sites, like the arm, have fewer nerve endings. That means there is very little pain associated with using them.
Please see the list of meters at

We have several articles about meters in addition to the one mentioned above. Please see meters in our Index.
