Question

My 40 year old son has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Is there anything you can share that will help him live with his disease?

Answer

Most importantly, your son and anyone who cooks for him should meet with a registered dietitian to learn the "ins and outs" of meal planning. These days, a meal plan needs to be invidualized to meet both blood glucose targets and lifestyle.

Given the fact that there are multiple treatment options these days, it's possible to control blood glucose and prevent complications. There are lots of diabetes courses available. Your son should ask his physician or inquire at his local hospital about enrollment.
