Question

I use Lantus, and am interested in acquiring the pen for my insulin delivery system. Can you please send me some information about it. Is it available in the USA yet?

Answer

According to an announcement August 12, 2004 by the manufacturer, Aventis, the OptiClik insulin pen has been approved by the FDA for use with Lantus. Aventis has also requested approval by the FDA for its use with their new short-acting insulin analog, Apidra. They also have submitted OptiClik for approval in other countries. As of autumn, 2004, there have not been any announcements of when this pen will be marketed, but it seems likely to be soon.

In other countries, Lantus is already available with other pen devices called OptiSet and OptiPen (see insulin pens for more information).
