Question

My mother and I both are highly allergic to the drug sulfa/sulpha. Could you tell me if Glucophage/metformin contains sulfa/sulpha or is a derivative thereof?

Answer

According to the Glucophage label, there is no mention of any sulfa component in metformin.

Perhaps you were thinking of the sulfonylurea class of diabetes pills, which do contain some sulfa, and where there is some concern about overlapping allergic reactions if someone is highly allergic to sulfa compounds.
