Question

I am presently taking metformin. What is the maximum daily dosage I can safely take? Presently, I am taking the 500 mg tablets, two tablets twice a day. Is this safe? It seems like a lot.

Answers

The manufacturer's full prescribing information at their website says that the "maximum daily dose [is] 2550 mg per day."

The usual dose of metformin is 1500-2550 mg/day. Your current dosage falls midway in this range. Although this may seem high, this may be what is required to treat your abnormal blood sugars.
