Question
Over the past 10 days we have checked my husband's blood sugar. It has ranged from 139 to 217. Does this mean he probably has
type 2 diabetes?
We have a doctor's appointment but it is not for another 2 weeks and I'm concerned about him and what I should be doing.
Answer
Assuming the meter is correct, diabetes seems likely.

Until the office visit, there are two things to do:
- Ask your husband's doctor's office staff if they can get fasting blood sugar and
HbA1c
testing done now, so the results are available at the time of the office visit.
- If he develops vomiting or is unable to eat for whatever reason, it's a medical emergency and
he should be evaluated and treated immediately at an emergency room or hospital.
