Question
I have been taking
metformin
for about two months and find that my hair is coming out. I need the
metformin because this is the only way it can control my blood sugars.
Also, I have a terrible taste in my mouth and a wake up many times at night
with this very bad taste and a very dry mouth. However, my main concern is
the fact that I'm losing my hair. Are my symptoms related to my medication?
Answer
I don't think the hair loss is likely to be from the medication. Please contact your physician and
discuss this with him/her.
If you haven't had thyroid testing
recently, ask your doctor about doing tests for hypothyroidism, as this is
reasonably common disorder in people with diabetes, and can cause hair loss.
