Question
My six-year-old daughter has been having some problems with their urine.
There has been microscopic blood in her year and four months, and the
doctors have been several tests, which show her kidneys to be perfectly
normal. However I have been noticing that she urinates more frequently and is
always thirsty. I have diabetes so I checked my daughter's
blood sugar
with
my meter before she ate or drink anything this morning. Her blood sugar
was 100 mg/dL [5.5 mmol/L]. What is the normal fasting level for a child this
age?
Answer
The values for the kids are about the same as they are for adults. So she
doesn't have diabetes now, but the stress of whatever she has might provoke
hyperglycemia. So, keep on checking occasionally, especially after a large
high carb meal and see if her blood sugar goes too high.
