Question
I am a 26 year old woman who is three months pregnant. The clinic checked
my urine and said I have diabetes. I am very afraid because
I have family members with diabetes. What do I need to do? How can I
control my food? Is diabetes afraid for my unborn baby?
Answer
Diabetes can be suspected based on a urine sample, but it cannot truly
diagnosed without a proper blood test. It is common in pregnancy to have
sugar in your urine and not have actual diabetes. Speak with the folks at
the clinic about having a one hour glucose test which is usually done
between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.
