Question

My cat has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and has been put on Purina canned DM (Diabetes Management). I just found out about this "Catkins Diet". My baby gets two insulin shots a day, and I would love to be able to stop with those. She is also morbidly obese (weighing in at 23 pounds). What should I be feeding her? Does she get any treats?

Answer

I'd suggest you discuss this with your vet. See: Notes from the 2003 AVMA convention: The 'CatKins' diet: The feline diet: a historical look for more info on the diet. You might also post comments at The Feline Diabetes Message Board for Discussion of Diabetes in Cats.
