Question

Today, after I pricked my finger to test my blood sugar, I accidentally pricked myself with the same needle. About 10 minutes later, I cleaned the area thoroughly. Is there any reason to be concerned about the second needle prick since it was my needle? I may be a "nervous nelly" but I thought I would ask.

Answer

Since you poked yourself with your own lancet, there's nothing to worry about.

The worry about accidental needlesticks is that if you were to poke yourself with a lancet or needle that someone else had used, and if they had a bloodborne disease, that the needlestick might have transmitted their germs to you.
