Question

I have a problem with my glucose meter which I bought from the United Kingdom, but I didn't pay attention to it. It gives you measurements in mmol/L, but I want it to give it to me in mg/dL as we used to deal with these units here in Algeria. How can I convert from mmol/L to mg/dL?

Answer

Several thoughts:
  1. Most meters will read in both mmol/L and mg/dL. If you look in the manual that came with your meter, you should be able to find out how to change this parameter.
  2. If you cannot locate this function in your meter, call the number on the back of the meter. The customer service representative will talk you though it.
  3. See: Diabetes Monitor - blood-glucose unit converter.
  4. If all else fails, multiply the value in mmol/L by 18 to get the reading in mg/dL.
