Question
I have
type 1
diabetes,
and I have trouble keeping my sugar down. I take my medication and try to
eat right. I can have it under control (120 mg/dL [6.7 mmol/L] average),
and all of a sudden, it will drop to 50 mg/dL [2.8 mmol/L]
or so. If I am
doing everything right, why will it go up to 400 mg/dL [22.2 mmol/L] one
day and drop to 50 mg/dL [2.8 mmol/L] another day?
Answer
Your blood sugar level depends on what you eat, when you eat, how much you
exercise, what medications you are on, and
a million other things. It should not bounce like you mention, and if your
physician is unable to advise you how to correct this, you ask for a
referral
to a diabetes team for evaluation and advice.
