Question

I am an 82 year old female with type 2 diabetes. I am active and get around real well, but I need to gain weight. What foods are high in carbs?

Answer

Foods in the dairy group, such as milk, yogurt, and ice cream are significant sources of carbohydrate. Finally, fruits and fruit juices, as well as most vegetables, are sources of carbohydrate. Most desserts also contain carbohydrate (cookies, cakes, pies, puddings, jello). Why don't you make an appointment with a registered Dietitian (RD) to help you work out a meal plan to meet your weight gain requirements?

You don't say what your blood sugar control is. If you cannot gain/maintain weight, this could mean your diabetes is out of control, and it's time for a change in your treatment plan.
