Question

I have type 2 diabetes treated with Actos, Amaryl, and Lantus. My blood sugar is under control. but I would really like to drop several pounds and get off the Actos. Can I take Byetta or is it just for folks who can't seem to get under control? I would really like to try it.

Answer

The decision to add an additional medication to control your blood sugar is up to your physician (and yourself). Please point out to your physician exactly what you mentioned to us, including your concerns about weight gain along with your desire to discontinue one of your present medications and start a new one.
