My 83 year old mother just started taking insulin (10 units in the evening) about a year ago, and
for the last ten days, we have noticed that her blood sugar is at extremely low in the
morning (43 mg/dL [2.4 mmol/L]). After she eats, it will go to 108
mg/dL [6 mmol/L] or above. She is very afraid each morning
because she does not feel well and cannot talk or move around.
We are visiting in another state, and her doctor does not return our calls. What would happen if she did not take this shot? We will get a check-up in our new state, but for now can we just try to lower the dose?
