Question

Should I take metformin along with medications for mental illness?

Answer

I think we need a little more information to answer this question, but, in general, there is no specific contraindication to metformin (Glucophage) and psychoactive medications. However, some of the older psychiatric drugs might cause liver or kidney impairment that might warrant closer monitoring. Many people who have psychiatric disorders also have diabetes and are and on medications for both.
