Diabetic Ketoacidosis Pathophysiology

 

    DKA is caused by profound insulin deficiency.


    Insulin deficiency leads to:

      Impairment of glucose uptake

      Excess hepatic glucose production
      Impairment of protein synthesis
      Excessive protein degradation
      Loss of lean body mass
